Smile Makeover
![]() Smile Makeover ProcessDuring a consultation visit, Dr. Keith A. Boenning will determine if a smile makeover is right for you with a comprehensive exam. This may include x-rays, photographs, CBCT scans, and a visual and physical exam. Once we have a complete overview, we will discuss what you like or dislike about your smile, and want you to want to change. At this point, you should be asking any questions and voicing all concerns. We will answer your questions and make treatment recommendations based on your desires. We also take into consideration alignment and spacing issues, harmony and balance, tooth length, your smile line, tooth proportions, and tooth texture and characterization. If we discover any oral health issues during your comprehensive exam, we may need to delay your cosmetic treatment. Tooth decay and gum disease can lead to significant complications with your smile. These issues will need to be remedied before we move forward. Most patients undergoing a smile makeover will need some form of restorative treatment. Once we have determined what you want your smile to look like, your treatment will begin. Restorative TreatmentsWe will recommend restorative treatments that best suit your individual needs. From composite fillings to porcelain dental implants, we’ve got you covered. If you have teeth with some decay, we may recommend a composite filling. These fillings are made using resin composite, a putty-like substance that can be color-matched to your existing teeth. If you have teeth with significant decay, we may recommend a dental crown. A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that fits over a damaged tooth to preserve its structure and appearance. These days crowns are made from ceramic compounds, such as porcelain, due to its high aesthetic value and durability. We may also recommend bridges, dental implants, and partial or complete dentures if you are missing one or more teeth. Dr. Keith A. Boenning is a board-certified prosthodontist, so you can rest assured knowing your restorations will look great and feel comfortable. Cosmetic TreatmentsThere is some overlap between restorative and cosmetic treatments. For instance, if you are missing a tooth, a replacement will be both restorative and cosmetic. Treatments such as dental veneers, composite bonding, and teeth whitening are largely considered to be cosmetic. Dental veneers are razor-thin shells that fit over the front surfaces of these teeth. Veneers can be used to change the shape, size, and color of your anterior (front) teeth. Composite bonding can be used to fix chipped, cracked, and even gapped teeth. Whiter teeth can greatly enhance the aesthetics of your smile in just a single appointment. Your smile can become up to eight shades brighter in one treatment.
